2 Corinthians 1:3-4 reminds us that God comforts us so that we may comfort others:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God”
If you are grieving or if you would like to help someone who is in need of comfort, our congregation has a number of resources available on the table in the overflow area of the Sanctuary.
The booklet “Do You Know Someone Who Is In Need of Comfort?” offers suggestions and reminders compiled by some members of our church who have lost loved ones and have given thought to the many ways that we can all be comforters. Remember, this booklet is not intended for those who are grieving, but is for those who wish to comfort others.
For those who are grieving we have a wide selection of Abbey Press CareNotes pamphlets which provide help in the healing process. Some of the many titles are: “Prayers That Bring Comfort in Times of Grief,” “Five Ways to Get Through the First Year of Loss,” “Grieving the Loss of Your Parent,” “Healing Thoughts to Soothe a Grieving Heart.” Please take as many as you would like.
We also have a variety of books in our Grief Resource Collection that are available for the congregation to borrow. They range from ones with practical suggestions to ones which offer comfort or insight. There are books for those who have lost a spouse, for those who have lost a parent, books for and about children and teens, as well as books for those who are grieving the death of a pet, among many others.
