Pre-School Program at St. Andrew UMC

Philosophy and Goals

We believe that all children should be ready for public or private school learning when they enter Kindergarten.  This readiness for school involves mastering a variety of skills.  Our staff creates a warm, nurturing environment with a variety of developmentally appropriate activities to help children be ready.  They do this along with providing some very basic Christian education.

Program and Policies

Our program recognizes that children need to know how to work and play with others is socially acceptable ways.  They need to know many things including: the alphabet, some sight words, colors, shapes, taking turns, being in a line, listening at directions, and understanding that their own needs do not always have to be satisfied first.  They need to know that God created all of us, that we are precious and loved by God, that we should worship God, and that we should be kind and helpful to everyone around us.  These are the foundations of our program.  We mostly follow public school readiness benchmarks in designing our curriculum.

Our policies are what you would expect for a school.  Safety is first.  This applies to student behavior, adults coming into school to pick up or drop off children, cleanliness of the facilities, and personal hygiene.  When children are sick we ask that you do not send them to school.  Our staff would like to know if a student will be out of school for an extended period of time due to illness or accident.  Also, our staff is required by law to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect.

If your child has a food allergy or other medical issue involving food, our staff will do its best to accommodate the child's needs.  We do not serve lunches but we do have a snack time.  Teachers often will give their students some snacks to supplement the snacks that students bring from home.  We do request that snacks brought from home be balanced between healthy foods and what are often referred to as "junk" food.

Tuition

Tuition Invoices are issued near the first of the month with payments due upon receipt.  Parents should keep the invoices for proof of child-care expenses for tax purposes.  There are limited numbers of scholarships available equal to $25 per month.  Interested parents should talk to one of the teachers for more information.
